NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Ladyjack volleyball team did their best to help the American Cancer Society, posting 75 digs in a 3-0 (30-24, 30-22, 30-21) win over Sam Houston on Tuesday.
The win is SFA's (20-6, 10-0) 11th in a row over the Bearkats (11-12, 5-5) and the 61st consecutive win for SFA in SLC play. The Ladyjacks now have their magic number for clinching the SLC West down to four, depending on the result of UT-Arlington and Texas State.
After holding Sam Houston to a -.035 hitting percentage in the final two games of their last meeting 11 days ago, the Ladyjacks held the Bearkats to -.031 in the final two games on Tuesday.
Traci Rohde and Shelly Swendig each led the offense with 12 kills apiece as the Ladyjacks outkilled Sam Houston 55 to 30 on the night. Senior JJ Jones continued her pursuit of the SFA all-time assist record with 30 on the evening, including 17 digs of her own. She needs 252 assists before season's end to take the top spot.
Jami Hill paced three Ladyjacks in double-figure digs with 22, while newly named SLC Defensive Player of the Week Ashley Bailey picked up four blocks.
SFA is back at home for a pair of matches this weekend against the top of the SLC East - McNeese State and Lamar. Pending Lamar's results leading up to the match, it could pit the two remaining undefeated teams in the Southland Conference on Saturday.
