After rave reviews SFAJacks.com is bringing back the 2007 volleyball player's diary, this year with junior outside hitter Shelly Swendig.
Tuesday night we had a slight break in conference action with a match against UT Pan-American, who waltzed across Texas on a mere nine-hour bus ride. Unfortunately for them, they arrived just in time to lose a quick three-game match and hop back on the bus. We played really well and it was a chance for more players to get on the court and show the crowd what they could do. Highlighting the night was Ashley Bailey who ripped 10 kills with no errors.
After the match, we played a little game of "Let's Make a Deal," in which Coach would give us Monday off if we continued to take care of business through the weekend. We were giddy with excitement, as this was our first prospective "day off" all season.
On Friday, we were ready to compete against our next conference foes, the Roadrunners of UTSA. We walked onto to the court not recognizing virtually any of the faces on their squad, and still took care of them in yet another sweep. Within the last few points of the match, I looked up to see a loyal fan waving a broom in the air. He must have read my mind, as I was thinking about suggesting that our fans bring brooms if our streak continued.
Quick shout-out to my roommate, Lauren Railey for getting 20 kills in a three-game match... If you don't know, that's pretty good. You can call her the girl with the golden arm if you'd like.
Our early finish on Friday allowed us to get a good night's sleep and prepare for the next day's match against TAMU-CC. The match commenced at 4pm, and as seems to be our trend, we dominated the first two games and struggled a bit in the third. However, we came away with another three-game sweep and had the rest of the weekend to relax. Hooray for another win, and hooray for Monday off!
This coming weekend will indubitably be one of the toughest on our conference schedule, as we will travel to both UTA and Texas State. Luckily we get to break up our trip with a little shopping at the San Marcos outlets.
