FRISCO, Texas - Stephen F. Austin sophomore center Matt Kingsley has been named Southland Conference Basketball Player of the Week, SLC officials announced Monday. Kingsley's selection is the first of his career and the first this season for a Lumberjack player.
The 6-9 Houston native averaged 21.5 points and 9.5 rebounds last week in leading the Lumberjacks to their first 2-0 start in SLC play since the 2002-03 season. Kingsley scored 22 points and pulled down eight rebounds in SFA's 61-55 win over Nicholls State. He followed that performance up with his second career double-double when he poured in 21 points and grabbed 11 boards in the Lumberjacks' 66-49 victory over Southeastern Louisiana. Kingsley also added two assists and a pair of blocked shots against the Lions.
SFA (9-5, 2-0) will be back in action Thursday, when the Lumberjacks head to Beaumont, Texas, to take on Lamar, looking to extend their four-game winning streak. The game is set to start at 7:05 p.m. SFA will play at McNeese State on Saturday.
