SFA Prepares for Clash with Rival Sam Houston State

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team enters the week with an 11-6 (.647) overall record and a 3-1 (.750) league mark after splitting its two games last week. The Ladyjacks have now won four of their last five contests, and nine of their last 12. The Ladyjacks will look to add another notch in the win column Saturday when they travel to Huntsville, Texas, to face conference-rival Sam Houston State (4-13/1-3 SLC). The Bearkats have struggled over the past couple weeks dropping 11-of-12, and 13 of their past 15 contests. The Bearkats ended a 10-game losing streak with their 74-57 victory over McNeese State last Thursday in Lake Charles, La. The Bearkats are currently sixth in the SLC West Division. The game against SHSU is slated to tip off at 2 p.m. from the Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum.
SFA vs. the Bearkats: The Ladyjacks have dominated the all-time series between the two schools, owning an 55-5 (.917) all-time record against the Bearkats. SFA has won two-straight games in the series, and 11 of the last 13 meetings. The Ladyjacks recorded an 84-45 thumping over Sam Houston State in Nacogdoches during the only meeting between the two schools last season. The Bearkats recorded a 59-47 victory during the 2005-06 season, which marked their last victory in the series, and also the last time the two teams met in Huntsville.
93 Down, Seven To Go: SFA head coach Lee Ann Riley is approaching another milestone. With her team's win over McNeese State, Riley is only seven wins shy of her 100th career win at SFA.
Career High: Senior Charity Egenti posted a new career high in scoring Thursday night against Lamar. The 6-3, post player from Lagos, Nigeria, scored 28 points on 9-of-19 (47 percent) shooting. She was also 10-of-14 (.714) from the free throw line. Egenti also pulled down eight rebounds in the contest.
More Double-Doubles: Senior Charity Egenti recorded her sixth double-double of the season Saturday against McNeese State. She scored 27 points and pulled down 13 rebounds in the victory. Egenti has recorded eight career double-doubles.
Charity Tosses: Senior Charity Egenti has really upped her output over the course of the past six games. She is averaging 21.2 points, 10.8 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game during that stretch.
Inside Force: Charity Egenti has really become a force to be reckoned with in the low post. The 6-3 senior is currently third in the conference averaging 16.1 points per game, leads the conference averaging 9.4 rebounds per game and is currently third in the SLC averaging 1.47 blocks per game.
She's Only a Rookie?: Freshman Whitney Cormier is turning some heads in her first season with the Ladyjack program. The 5-11, guard from Fort Worth is making an early push for Southland Conference Freshman of the Year honors. She is currently third on the team averaging 9.6 points per game. She has led the team in scoring on three separate occasions and has scored at least 20 points in a game twice.
The Color Green The McNeese State Cowgirls saw plenty purple, white and green, Natashia Green, Saturday. The 5-7 sophomore came off the bench to score 17 points on 7-of-15 (.467) shooting, including a 3-of-6 clip from beyond the arc. It marked the first double-figure scoring night for Green since she scored 18 at Southern Miss. Green also grabbed seven rebounds, dished out three assists and recorded two steals in the game.
Attacking the Glass The Ladyjacks posted another outstanding performance on the glass Saturday in the win over McNeese State. SFA pulled down a season-high 59 rebounds. It marked the fifth time this season that SFA has recorded at least 50 rebounds in a game. The Ladyjacks currently lead the SLC in rebounds (43.3 rpg) and rebound margin (+6.5).
Up Next ... The Ladyjacks will be back in action Thursday, Jan. 25, when they host Texas State. The game against the Bobcats will tip off at 7 p.m. in the William R. Johnson Coliseum. SFA will then travel to Arlington for a showdown with the SLC West Division leading Lady Mavericks. The game against UTA is slated to begin at 4 p.m. from Texas Hall.
