NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin athletics department was honored to be joined by Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey Pike, Master Sergeant Dwayne Hysmith, Master Sergeant David Glover and Major Bruce Daniel from SFA Army ROTC Tuesday afternoon at its monthly staff luncheon. During the luncheon, Lt. Col. Pike presented the athletics department and athletics training staff with the Lumberjack Battalion Award of Excellence.
"It is an extreme honor to be recognized by a group on campus that I admire as greatly as the ROTC staff," said Hill. "To measure up to their standards is awesome for our staff and student-athletes."
The SFA Army ROTC is a vital part of the athletic experience in Nacogdoches. From manning the cannon, Ol' Cotton, at every home game to running the game ball to Huntsville, for the 'Jacks' annual `Battle of the Piney Woods' against Sam Houston State, SFA ROTC is an avid supporter of the purple and white.
