Ladyjacks Split Matches in Day 1 of Tournament

NACOGDOCHES - On Day 1 of the Austin Bank Ladyjack Invitational, the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks split their two matches after defeating Tennessee State, 3-1, and falling to Baylor, 3-0, Friday at the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The split moves SFA's record to an overall 5-3.
The Ladyjacks dominated the court against Tennessee State. SFA split the first two games with the Tigers, 30-25 and 27-30, but then took over to win the next two, 30-15 and 30-16.
For SFA, four Ladyjacks put up double-digit kills while five put up double-digit digs. With 12 kills and 12 digs, senior Laura Cramer earned her first double-double of the season while sophomore Lauren Railey's 15 kills and 15 digs led her to her third double-double of the season.
Sophomore Shelly Swendig led both teams with 17 kills, her career-high. She also put up a .447 attacking percentage. Junior JJ Jones dished out 60 assists with senior Stephanie Figgers leading the pack with 32 digs. Sophomore Traci Rohde put up eight total blocks for the third time in her career.
In the nightcap, Baylor defeated SFA in three-straight games, 30-20, 30-27 and 30-22. Cramer and Jones each had 10 digs while Figgers put up 20. Jones also pitched in with 28 assists.
Baylor was the only team in Friday's tournament schedule to win two matches, also defeating Arkansas State, 3-1. Tennessee State and Arkansas State both defeated Houston, 3-2.
The Ladyjacks will face Houston at noon on Saturday before battling Arkansas State at 5 p.m.
