CONWAY, Ark. - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team suffered its first Southland Conference defeat of the season Friday night, falling 1-0 against Central Arkansas. The Sugar Bears scored a goal early in the second period and held on for their first SLC win. Central Arkansas, formerly a Division II program, joined the conference over the summer.
The Bears' Lauren King scored her third goal of the season in the 58th minute. Teammates Rachael Anderson and Kayla Wolff assisted on the play.
SFA took 10 shots -- seven on goal -- to Central Arkansas' eight, but the Ladyjacks couldn't find a way to slip one past Sugar Bear goalkeeper Heather Joy. Francesca Tierno, starting in the Ladyjack net for the first time in three games, recorded five saves.
The loss drops SFA's record to 5-6-0 overall and 1-1-0 in SLC action. Central Arkansas improved to 5-3-1 and 1-0-0. The Ladyjacks will be back in action Sunday when they host Texas-San Antonio in a 2 p.m. contest.
