COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Air Force Academy notched a 1-0 win Sunday over the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team. The game's lone goal was scored by Air Force's Jessica Yahn off a corner kick three minutes into the second period. The loss moves SFA's record to 4-5-0 with Southland Conference play set to start this week.
Yahn scored when she put her head on a corner kick by Rachael Emory and directed the ball past SFA goalkeeper Jessica Cotton. The Falcons played much of the game in the Ladyjacks' back third and recorded a school-record 14 corner kicks in the contest.
For her part, Cotton, a defender who is playing in place of injured 'keepers Francesca Tierno and Crystin Pactor, recorded four saves in the game. Air Force took 13 shots to SFA's six.
The Ladyjacks will open SLC play on the road Wednesday against Sam Houston State. The game, originally set for a 7 p.m. start, has been moved to 4:30 p.m., because of field lighting problems. SFA will travel to Conway, Ark., for its first meeting with Central Arkansas on Friday, before returning home to host Texas-San Antonio on Sunday.
