SKOKIE, Ill. - Less than 24 hours after earning Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors, sophomore linebacker Damian Perkins was named to the I-AA Weekly All-Stars List announced Ralph Wallace at I-AA.org Tuesday afternoon.
Perkins led the Lumberjacks' defensive effort Saturday against NCAA Division I-A foe Arizona from the Pac 10 Conference. Perkins was involved in 23 stops during the game recording 10 solo tackles. He also recorded his first career interception to help thwart a Wildcat drive.
The Lumberjacks went into the fourth quarter trailing by only four points, 14-10. The score could have been closer except a questionable call wiped out a Cory Long field goal to pull the 'Jacks to within a point.
The Lumberjacks return to the field Saturday to host Central Arkansas. The game against the Bears is slated to begin at 6 p.m. from Homer Bryce Stadium.
