
SFA Eases Past Troy State

RUSTON, La. - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks eased their way to a 3-0 win over the Troy State Trojans Friday afternoon on Day 1 of the Louisiana Tech volleyball tournament in Ruston, La. SFA wore down the Trojans with scores of 30-20, 30-16, and 30-13 to hand Troy State their second loss of the day. The defeat sends SFA's record to 8-3 on the year.
For the first time this season, SFA hit over .300 with a .330 attack percentage, and forced the Trojans to hit a -.036. The Ladyjacks also out-blocked Troy State, 9-1.
Junior setter, JJ Jones, posted her fifth double-double of the season with 35 assists and 13 digs. Senior libero Stephanie Figgers led both teams with 15 digs and three service aces. Sophomores Lauren Railey and Shelly Swendig were the only two players from both teams to post double-digit kills with 13 and 10, respectively. Swendig also posted four total blocks with Traci Rohde, Briana Taylor and Railey each collecting three.
After an early afternoon loss to Louisiana Tech, the Trojans record fell to 4-9 on the season.
SFA will close out the weekend's tournament Saturday afternoon with a 1 p.m. match against tournament-host, Louisiana Tech from Thomas Assembly.
