NACOGDOCHES - Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack senior safety Keldrick Holman has been named to the "Buchanan Award Watch" list announced Matt Dougherty, Executive Director of Division I-AA Football for the Sport Network, Wednesday afternoon. Holman is one of 16 athletes, and one of only two Southland Conference athletes, to make the list.
The Buchanan Award is given annually to nation's top NCAA Division I-AA defensive player. The "Buchanan Watch" pages, which can be found at The Sports Network's website (www.sportsnetwork.com) keep track of the quest for the 12th Buck Buchanan Award. The honor will be presented at the 20th annual I-AA College Football Awards on Thursday, December 14th.
Holman is a two-time All-Southland Conference selection who earned first-team All-SLC honors in 2005. Holman was third in the conference in tackles and finished fourth in the nation averaging .55 interceptions per game as a junior. Following the season, Holman was named second-team All-America by The Sports Network and first-team All-America by Don Hansen's Football Gazette. Holman enters his senior season as a preseason first-team All-SLC selection.
The Lumberjacks are entering their final week of fall camp before opening the season Thursday, Aug. 31, at Tulsa. The game is slated to begin at 6 p.m. from Skelly Stadium.
