
SFA Holds Scrimmage at Homer Bryce

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team finished its first scrimmage of the 2006 fall camp Saturday morning at Homer Bryce Stadium. SFA hit the field at 8 a.m. and ran 70 plays with a Southland Conference officiating crew.
The Lumberjack quarterbacks all had productive outings completing 18-of-26 (69 percent) passes for 169 yards and three touchdowns with only one interception. Junior Danny Southall was 6-of-7 for 45 yards, which included a five-yard scoring strike to junior college transfer Nick Rhodes. Rhodes finished the game with three catches for 17 yards.
Redshirt freshman Clint Bricker also looked solid under center, completing 9-of-11 (.818) passes for 106 yards and two scores. Bricker hooked up with sophomore Lloyd Ligons on a 51-yard scoring strike and sophomore Leonard Lynce for a seven-yard touchdown. Ligons finished the scrimmage with two catches for a team-high 57 yards.
Freshman wide out Contrevious Parks also had a big day for the Lumberjacks. Parks hauled in three catches for 34 yards.
Redshirt freshman Vincent Pervis finished the game with a team-high 10 carries for 42 yards. Junior Louie Runnels had two carries for 15 yards and also hauled in two catches for 21 yards.
Redshirt freshman Cory Barlow recorded the Lumberjacks' only interception of the srimmage, which he returned 33 yards for the touchdown. He finished the game with three tackles. Junior linebackers Bug Aymond and Robert Castillo each finished the game with three tackles, while Aymond added a sack. Sophomore linebacker Damian Perkins also recorded three tackles and recovered a fumble. Senior linebacker Kenneth Boley made three stops and also recovered a fumble.
Sophomore kicker Cory Long made good on all three extra-point attempts, while junior Brandon Smith drilled a 29-yard field goal. Returning punter Ryan Gooch recorded two punts for 88 yards, including a long of 48.
The Lumberjacks will take the rest of the day off. SFA will be in team meetings Sunday evening and will return to the practice Monday at 8:15 a.m. Monday will mark the team's fourth two-a-day practice of fall camp.
