NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team entered its ninth day of fall camp with a two-a-day workout Saturday. SFA hit the field at 8:20 for the morning session and returned to Homer Bryce Stadium at 7:30 p.m. for its first practice under the stadium lights.
The Lumberjacks worked on the passing game Saturday night and junior quarterback Danny Southall continued to impress. Southall connected on 4-of-5 passes for 71 yards. But the big strike of the night came from redshirt freshman Clint Bricker who connected with Rodney Freeman for a 60-yard touchdown pass down the right sideline. Bricker finished the night completing 5-of-7 passes for 91 yards and a touchdown. On the night the Lumberjack signal callers connected with seven different targets.
The Lumberjack defense finished the night with six sacks, including two against Southall, two pass break ups and a forced fumble. Redshirt freshman Jonathan Botley and junior Johnny Thacker notched the two pass deflections.
The team will get a chance to rest on Sunday spending majority of the afternoon in team meetings. The 'Jacks will return to the practice field Monday at 8:30 a.m.
