LAKE CHARLES - Despite a night where the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks plated 13 runs, it wasn't enough to hold off McNeese State who rallied for a 14-13 victory in front its home fans Friday night. The 'Jacks fell to 6-28 (.176) overall and 2-14 (.125) in Southland Conference play.
SFA fell behind 7-0 after first two innings, but rallied to score in each of the final six innings to take a 13-12 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth. SFA got the first out of the inning but surrendered back-to-back singles before retiring the second Cowboy of the inning. Two batters later catcher Joe Hulett singled to drive in the game-winning runs for McNeese State.
Junior Clay Britton continued his hot hitting, finishing the game 4-for-6 with three runs batted in and four runs scored. Classmate Steven Hill went 3-for-6 with three runs scored, and left fielder David Jeans went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Junior Kevin Croft and Eric Tasler each homered for the 'Jacks. Freshman Richard Folmer got the start for SFA, but was only able to go 1.1 innings surrendering five hits and six earned runs.
SFA returns to the field Saturday for the second game of the three-game series. Saturday's game is slated to begin at 3 p.m. from Cowboy Diamond.
