The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack baseball team will look to put and end to a four-game losing streak when it travels to Lake Charles, La., to open a three-game series against McNeese State. Friday's game is slated to begin at 7 p.m. Saturday's game will begin at 3 p.m., while the game on Sunday is slated for a 1 p.m. start. All three games will be played at Cowboy Diamond.
SFA vs. the Cowboys: The Lumberjacks are 9-15 (.375) all-time versus McNeese State. SFA has dropped three-straight in the series, but all three losses came during the 1995 season. The last Lumberjack victory came in 1994 when SFA took two games of the three-game series.
Brand Name Jeans: Junior David Jeans continues to lead the Lumberjacks with a .355 batting average. The rest of the Southland Conference is starting to take notice of Jeans' efforts on the field. Jeans is currently seventh in the conference's batting average race. If the season were to end today, Jeans would hold the school's single-season record for batting average.
Offensive Onslaught: The Lumberjack baseball team recorded its second-biggest offensive output of the season in the victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. SFA struck for 10 runs in the game, and scored in five consecutive innings. The 'Jacks' best output of the season was a 15-run game against Louisiana-Monroe.
Great Britton: Junior Clay Britton has hit safely in four of his last five games. After getting out to a slow start this season, Britton has improved is average to .229 with five doubles and nine runs batted in. Over the course of the team's last five games, Britton is hitting .350 (7-for-20) with a double and a triple.
Over the Hill: Junior catcher Steven Hill is among the Southland Conference leaders in several offensive categories. Hill is currently tops in the conference with a .682 slugging percentage, tied for first in the league with nine home runs and 12 doubles, third in total bases (73), third in base on balls (22) and tied for fifth in the league with 29 runs batted in.
Numbers Watch: Junior Steven Hill is approaching some SFA all-time and single-season top-10 marks, despite being only halfway through his first season at SFA. Hill is currently tied for the third-best single season mark in home runs with nine. He is currently tied for 10th on the school's single-season RBI top-10 list (29). Hill needs only one more home run to move onto the school's all-time top-10 list in that category. He also has an outside shot at finishing the season on the school's single-season batting average top-10 list.
On Deck ... The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack baseball team will return to Nacogdoches to open a three-game home stand against defending SLC Champ Northwestern State on Thursday, April 13th. The series, which was originally scheduled to be a Friday, Saturday and Sunday series, was switched to Thursday, Friday and Saturday due to Easter. The Thursday and Friday games will begin at 3 p.m., with the Saturday game scheduled for a 1 p.m. start. All three games will be played at Jaycees Field in the Nacogdoches Baseball Complex.
