
Athletes Wrap Up First Day at Texas Relays

AUSTIN, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin track and field teams opened competition in the Texas Relays Wednesday afternoon with the first series of multi events. At the end of Day 1, Bo Simpson stood eighth in the decathlon, and Crystal Chang held the No. 12 spot in the heptathlon. Aaron Harlan, LaKoa McKeever and Cole Hollingsworth also competed on Wednesday.
Simpson scored 3,635 points through five events in the decathlon. He ran an 11.27 in the 100-meter dash and finished the 400-meter dash in 53.40. Simpson recorded a mark of 6.97 meters in the long jump, cleared 1.90 meters in the high jump and posted a distance of 12.69 in the shot put. Harlan also competed in the decathlon Wednesday. He scored 3,563 points, good enough for 12th place at the end of the day. Harland posted times of 11.28 and 51.93 in the 100 and 400 meters, respectively. He traveled 6.66 meters in the long jump, cleared 1.90 in the high jump and threw the shot a distance of 11.70 meters.
Chang scored 3,155 points on the first day. She ran the 100-meter hurdles in 15.21, and ran the 200 in 25.52. Chang cleared 1.69 meters in the high jump and recorded a mark of 11.97 meters in the shot put.
McKeever took third place in Section B of the 1,500-meter run. She crossed the line in a time of 4:41.60. Hollingsworth ran in the men's Section B of the 1,500 meters and finished 10th with a time of 4:07.51.
The action will continue at 11 a.m. on Thursday, when the decathlon competition resumes.
