DALLAS, Texas - Junior Clay Britton drove in two runs and scored a third, but it wasn't enough to prevent Dallas Baptist from rallying for an 8-3 victory over the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack baseball team Tuesday night at Patriot Field. The 'Jacks are now 6-27 (.182) on the season.
The Lumberjacks pushed three runs across in the top of the first inning. After getting two on with only one out, junior Clay Britton singled to score freshman Angel Hernandez and junior Steven Hill. Britton then stole second base and advanced to third on a passed ball, before he was driven in by freshman Zach Gardner.
The Lumberjacks momentum didn't last long as Dallas Baptist answered with one run in the first and two in the second to tie. The game remained tied at three until the bottom of the fifth inning when the Patriots struck for five runs on five hits. SFA was unable to push another run across the board as the Patriot bullpen pitched five scoreless innings surrendering only two hits.
Hill went 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Britton was 1-for-3 with 2 RBI and a run scored. Freshman Angel Hernandez and junior David Jeans recorded the 'Jacks' other two hits. Freshman Kyle Watson pitched one inning and took the loss falling to 0-3 on the season.
SFA returns to Southland Conference action Friday when it travels to Lake Charles, La., to open a three-game series against McNeese State. The first game against the Cowboys is slated to begin at 6 p.m. from Cowboy Diamond.
