
`Runners Slug Their Way Past SFA

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack baseball team got on the scoreboard first, but Texas-San Antonio scored eight runs in the seventh and eighth innings to record a 14-4 win against SFA. The loss drops the 'Jacks to 8-37 on the season and 3-19 in Southland Conference play.
The Lumberjacks jumped on the scoreboard in the second inning when junior Chase Sadler led off the inning with his fourth home run of the season. But the Roadrunners came right back with two runs in the bottom half of the inning and two in the third.
The Lumberjacks were trailing 6-1 when they came to the plate in the seventh inning. SFA led off the inning with three consecutive singles to load the bases. Freshman Gabe Garcia-Serrano doubled down the left line to pull SFA to within two, 6-4.
The 'Jacks' rally didn't last past the seventh inning as the Roadrunners scored three in the seventh and five in the eighth for the final score. Freshman Erich Lehmann got the start, going 5.2 innings but surrendered 11 hits and six runs, five of which were earned. Lehmann finished the game with five strikeouts.
Seven different 'Jacks recorded a hit Friday along with Sadler and Garcia-Serrano. Kevin Croft, Adam Bosley and Zack Gardner each got a hit and scored a run.
The Lumberjacks return to action Saturday for the second game of the three-game series. The game against the Roadrunners is slated to begin at 2 p.m.
