
Tulane Defeats SFA in Game Two

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack baseball team could must only one run for the second straight day, as Tulane defeated SFA, 7-1, Saturday afternoon at Zephyr Stadium. The Lumberjacks are now 8-35 (.186) on the season.
The Green Wave built a 6-0 lead before the Lumberjack cracked the scoreboard in the fifth inning. Sophomore Buck Britton and junior Steven Hill led off the inning with back-to-back singles. Two batters later, junior Chase Sadler hit an infield single to score Britton from third base. Tulane answered with one more run in the bottom half of the inning to close out the scoring.
Tulane's Brandon Gomes pitched 7.0 innings, surrendering only one run to pick up the victory. SFA countered with Brian Steinocher, but he was pulled in the fourth inning after giving up six runs, four earned, on three hits.
Both Sadler and Hill collected two hits on the afternoon, while Britton, David Jeans, Kevin Croft and Adam Bosley recorded the other hits for SFA. Freshman Jared Schrom was solid in a relief outing Saturday. He closed out the game pitching 4.0 innings, surrendering only two hits, no runs and struck out two batters.
The Lumberjacks will close out the series against Tulane Sunday night. The game against the Green Wave is slated to begin at 7 p.m. from Zephyr Stadium.
