NACOGDOCHES - Winners of three consecutive games, and nine of their last 10, the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks return to the friendly confines of the William R. Johnson Coliseum Thursday to host Louisiana-Monroe (14-6/6-3 SLC). The Lady Indians have won six of their last seven games and are coming off a 19-point victory over Sam Houston State. Thursday's game is slated to tip off at 7 p.m. in the Coliseum. The Ladyjacks will then hit the road for Thibodaux, La., for a Saturday showdown against Nicholls State. The Lady Colonels are 3-18 (.143) overall and 11th in the conference with a 2-8 (.200) league record. Nicholls State has lost four of its last five games but is coming off a 52-50 victory against Texas State. The game against the Lady Colonels is slated to begin at 2 p.m. from Stopher Gymnasium.
SFA vs. the Lady Indians: The Ladyjacks are 38-14 (.731) all-time against Louisiana-Monroe, but the Lady Indians have had their fair share of success lately. ULM has won the last two meetings between the two schools and three of the last four. Last season, the Ladyjacks dropped a two-point decision, 66-64, to ULM in Nacogdoches.
Home Sweet Home: The Ladyjacks are one of the nation's all-time winningest teams at home, with a 338-85 (.799) all-time record. The Ladyjacks have won 74 of their last 88 games at home and are a perfect 7-0 at home this season.
Double-Double: Senior Kirby Killingsworth recorded a first in her career in the victory over Northwestern State Saturday. Killingsworth scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to record her first-career double-double. It marks the eighth time this season that a Ladyjack has recorded a double-double. Killingsworth also finished the game with five assists, two blocks and a steal.
Rollin' Along: Senior LaToya Mills is in the midst of the best year of her career. Mills recorded 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds Saturday in the victory at Northwestern State. It marked the seventh time this season and the 17th time in her career that she has scored at least 20 points in a game.
Charity Shots: Junior Charity Egenti has found her mark over the course of the team's last two games. Egenti was averaging 3.4 points, 2.8 rebounds and 0.9 blocks per game through the team's first 18 games. Over the course of the last two games she has set career-highs in points, rebounds and blocks and is averaging 12 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 blocks during that stretch.
SFA's Sports Carr: Sophomore point guard Nikki Carr broke out of her scoring slump Saturday in the victory over Northwestern State. Carr scored 18 points on 5-of-8 (.625) shooting, including a 4-of-5 (.800) performance from beyond the three-point arc. Prior to Saturday's game, Carr had been mired in a 3-for-24 (.125) slump, and was in a 1-for-13 (.077) slide from beyond the three-point arc.
Scoring Punch: The Ladyjacks did a great job of spreading out the scoring wealth in the victory against Northwestern State. Senior LaToya Mills led the Ladyjacks with 20 points and was one of five players to score in double figures. It marks the first time the Ladyjacks have had five players score in double figures in the same game since they recorded a 91-68 victory over Texas State during the 2003-04 season.
Offensive-Minded: The Ladyjacks were 28-of-65 (43 percent) from the field against Northwestern State. It marked the 14th time this season the Ladyjacks have shot at least 40 percent in a game. SFA is 12-2 (.857) in those games. The Ladyjacks currently lead the Southland Conference in scoring offense (73.2 points per game), scoring margin (+9.3) and field-goal percentage (.429).
More on the Offense: The Ladyjacks also knocked down 9-of-21 (43 percent) three-pointers in Saturday's victory in Natchitoches. It marks the sixth time this season that SFA has hit at least nine three-pointers in a game. The Ladyjacks currently lead the Southland Conference in three-point field-goal percentage (.384) and three-pointers per game (6.55 pg).
A January to Remember: The Ladyjacks just finished off one of their best months of basketball in recent history. SFA recorded a nearly perfect 7-1 (.875) tally in the month of January.
Chasing 20: Although the Ladyjacks just started the second half of the Southland Conference schedule, they have an outside shot at 20 wins. The Ladyjacks will need to win six of their final regular-season games to record their 20th victory. If the Ladyjacks can win 20 games this season it would mark the first time SFA has won 20 games since the 2001-02 campaign.
Speed Limit 80: The Ladyjacks scored 85 points in the victory over Northwestern State, marking the third consecutive game and the seventh time in the last 10 games that SFA has scored at least 80 points. SFA is 11-0 when scoring at least 80 points.
Taking Advantage of Charity Tosses: The Ladyjacks went to the free throw line 24 times against Northwestern State, and connected on 20 of those attempts. SFA finished the game making 83 percent of its free throw attempts, which marks a season high for the Ladyjacks.
Reaching a Milestone: Senior LaToya Mills became the 22nd Ladyjack to record 1,000 points in a career earlier this season. She currently has 1,225 career points.
Windex Award: Senior LaToya Mills did a great job cleaning the glass in the Ladyjacks' 39-35 victory over Texas-Arlington. She recorded a career-high 24 rebounds in that game. It also ties her for the fourth most rebounds by a Ladyjack in a single game (Vanessa Anderson in 1979). The 24 rebounds are currently the second most in a game this season by any player at the NCAA Division I level.
Not Your Everyday Run of the Mills: Senior LaToya Mills is once again making a push for All-SLC honors. Mills is currently second in the SLC shooting 54 percent from the field, is second in the conference in scoring (16.7 points per game), second in rebounding (8.3 rpg) and is fifth in the league averaging 2.2 steals per game.
Chasing the Record: Senior Kirby Killingsworth has an outside shot at becoming the school's all-time leader in three-point field goals. She is currently 22 behind all-time leader Dayna (Reed) Westbrook and needs to average 3.1 treys over the team's final seven regular-season games to get the record.
Blocks: The Ladyjacks recorded 15 blocked shots in the victory against Northwestern State. The 15 rejections are a season-high for the Ladyjacks and the most in a game by a Lee Ann Riley coached team.
Up Next ... SFA returns to action Thursday, Feb. 16 when it hosts McNeese State. The game against the Cowgirls is slated to tip off at 7 p.m. in the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
