EDINBURG, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack baseball team closed out the Al Ogletree Classic Sunday afternoon against No. 18 TCU, but SFA wasn't able to overcome the Horned Frogs' strong pitching. SFA dropped to 2-8 (.200) on the season as TCU recorded a 13-0 seven-inning victory.
The Horned Frogs jumped out to a one-run lead in the bottom of the first and that would be all the offense starting pitcher Brad Furnish would need as he went the distance for the victory. Furnish struck out 13 batters and surrendered two walks.
The `Jacks hung with nation's No. 18-ranked team for five innings, trailing by only four runs heading into the bottom half of the sixth. But the Horned Frogs posted a nine-run sixth to record the final tally.
Junior Brian Steinocher got the start Sunday but was only able to go three innings. He surrendered five hits and two earned runs while striking out two TCU batters.
The `Jacks return to action Tuesday when they host Dallas Baptist. The game against the Patriots is slated to begin at 2 p.m. at Jaycees Field.
