NACOGDOCHES - Senior volleyball player, Stephanie Figgers, has earned All-Central Region honors announced the AVCA Wednesday afternoon. The 2006 Southland Conference Player of the Year earned the award a year after she received honorable mention all-region recognition.
Figgers, a 5-4 native of Katy, Texas, had a spectacular year on the Ladyjack back row to end her career. Her school record 853 digs this season led SFA to its second consecutive undefeated league mark (16-0), its third straight conference title, and its first NCAA tournament appearance since 1999. She was named the SLC's Libero of the Year for the third straight year and was an SLC first-team pick for the second straight season. She posted 30 or more digs in a match 11 times this season, including 34 against Alabama in the first round of the NCAA championships. She now owns or is tied for each top 10 digs mark in a match, having sole ownership of the top six.
Her 6.93 digs average this season is tops at SFA and was second in the nation. In her career, she has posted 2,598 digs a number that currently ranks second all-time in the NCAA. She also owns four of the top six single-season digs marks. Her career digs average of 5.09 is tops at SFA by more than two points.
In her career, she has been named the SLC's defensive player of the week a record 15 times and was named academic all-conference as a junior.
