NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks got 20 points and 10 rebounds from Josh Alexander and 20 points from Antuane Miller Friday night to defeat 2006 NCAA tournament participant Southern, 73-64. The victory improved SFA to 4-3 (.571) on the season.
The game was dominated by the offenses throughout. SFA shot 51 percent from the floor, while Southern knocked down shots at a 57-percent clip, including 64 percent from beyond the arc. But as solid as Southern was shooting the ball, they were just as weak holding onto it. SFA forced the Jaguars into 23 turnovers, while committing only 12.
The Lumberjacks also outrebounded Southern, 27-22, led by Alexander's 10. It marked the first time this season that Alexander has recorded a double-double. The 'Jacks led by four points, 36-32, at halftime and increased its lead to as many as 20 points in the second half.
Miller's performance marked the third consecutive game that he led the team in scoring. Senior Keith Hardaway added to the Lumberjacks' offensive onslaught with his season-high 11 points. Junior Scott Weaver added eight points in the victorious effort. The Jaguars were led by Chris Davis, who scored 18 points on 6-of-7 shooting, including a 3-of-4 performance from beyond the arc.
The Lumberjacks return action Wednesday, Dec. 6, to host North Texas. The game against UNT is slated to tip off at 7 p.m. from the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
