NACOGDOCHES - For the first time since 1999, the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team is headed to the NCAA tournament and will face Alabama in the first round of play Friday in Austin, Texas. The Ladyjacks will head into the tournament with a 30-3 record, while the Tide sits with a 17-12 mark.
After defeating Texas-Arlington, 3-0, last weekend in the Southland Conference championship tournament, the Ladyjacks received one of 31 automatic bids to the NCAA tournament, their first in six seasons. Alabama received its second consecutive at-large bid, and is one of seven SEC schools to advance to the tournament. This is the fourth time in school history the Ladyjacks have advanced to the NCAA tournament while 2005 was the first time for the Tide.
In a field of 64 teams, four squads will be making their way to Austin for the first and second rounds of tournament play. SFA will face Alabama Friday at 4:30 p.m. If SFA defeats Alabama, the Ladyjacks will face the winner of the Texas-Prairie View A&M match Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
The Ladyjacks hold a 2-1 all-time record against the Tide.
