NACOGDOCHES - Despite the fact that the Lumberjacks' 2006 season ended less than a week ago, Stephen F. Austin head coach Robert McFarland, and his staff, are already looking ahead to the upcoming season. SFA released its 2007 schedule announced McFarland Monday afternoon. The slate includes five home contests and non-conference trips to North Dakota State and South Dakota State.
The 'Jacks open the season Sept. 1 against NCAA Division II powerhouse Tarleton State in Nacogdoches. SFA will then travel to Fargo, N.D., Saturday, Sept. 8, to face North Dakota State. SFA will get a week off before returning home to face Western Illinois Saturday, Sept. 22. Following the home date, the Lumberjacks will once again head north to face South Dakota State (Sept. 29).
The 'Jacks will open Southland Conference play, and the month of October, in Hammond, La., to face Southeastern Louisiana on Oct. 6. SFA returns to Nacogdoches for its conference home opener Saturday, Oct. 13, against Nicholls State. The Lumberjacks return to San Marcos for the second consecutive season to face Texas State. The game against the Bobcats is slated for Saturday, Oct. 20.
SFA will open its longest homestand of the season Saturday, Oct. 27, to face rival Sam Houston State for Homecoming. SFA will follow that up with a home contest against defending SLC champion McNeese State Saturday, Nov. 3.
The Lumberjacks will close out the 2007 campaign with consecutive road games beginning Nov. 10 at Central Arkansas. The 'Jacks wrap up the season Saturday, Nov. 17, in the annual `Battle for Chief Caddo' against Northwestern State in Natchitoches, La.
The Lumberjacks will play their home games in Homer Bryce Stadium. Every home game is scheduled to kickoff at 6 p.m., except for the Oct. 27 game against Sam Houston State, which will begin at 2 p.m.
