NACOGDOCHES - As the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team heads into its final match of the 2006 regular season with a 26-3 overall record and a perfect 15-0 Southland Conference mark, the Ladyjacks have also moved up in the regional rankings with a No. 8 listing, the AVCA announced Friday. Its the highest ranking for the SLC champions this season.
Throughout the season, SFA had been towards the bottom half of the regional rankings that include Nebraska and Texas, who are respectively ranked No. 1 and No. 8 nationally. The Ladyjacks are ranked three spots above Baylor, who defeated SFA easily in a 3-0 sweep earlier this season.
In other news, the Ladyjacks' 20.65 digs per game and Stephanie Figgers' 6.89 digs average both rank third in the NCAA, in their respective team and individual categories.
The 2006 season concludes Saturday with a 1 p.m. match against the Central Arkansas Sugar Bears in Conway, Ark. The Ladyjacks will then head into postseason play next weekend as the No. 1 seed in the Southland Conference Championship Tournament in San Antonio.
