FRISCO, Texas - For the second straight week, members of the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team have swept the Aeropostale Southland Conference Players of the Week awards. While senior Stephanie Figgers remained a constant in the sweep winning the defensive honor, sophomore Lauren Railey earned the offensive honor. It is the fifth time this season Figgers has brought home the award and the second time for Railey.
Figgers, who played her final home match in the William R. Johnson Coliseum this past weekend, had a career week that will help seal her career as one of the best players to wear a Ladyjack uniform as she collected 30-plus digs in a three-game match twice last week. She posted 30 digs against Sam Houston State and 34 against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, sixth all-time at SFA. She also had 17 digs against Texas-San Antonio. Her 81 digs for the week sent her season total to 624, breaking her own and setting a new SFA record.
Railey, a native of McKinney, Texas, totaled 48 kills last week for a 5.33 average. She had only eight errors in 124 attempts for a .323 hitting percentage. She also had 38 digs to average 4.22 per game. Railey recorded four total blocks on the week. She also posted a double-double in digs and kills in each of her outings last week.
Railey and Figgers led SFA to a 3-0 record last week sweeping all three of its matches to extend the Ladyjacks' win streak to 18 matches and remain perfect in SLC action at 12-0. SFA is 23-3 overall this season.
The Ladyjacks return to the court Wednesday night looking to clinch at least a share of the league title against Texas-Arlington from Texas Hall at 7 p.m.
