The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks will look to put a disappointing homecoming setback against McNeese State behind them as they travel to Hammond, La., for a clash against the Lions. The 'Jacks (1-6/1-1 SLC) are facing a Lion football team that is 2-6 (.250) on the season and 1-2 (.333) in Southland Conference action. The Lions have lost four of their last five games, and are coming off a 38-17 loss at Texas State. The game against the Lions is slated to begin at 7 p.m. from Strawberry Stadium, and will be televised on Fox Sports Net. It marks the second time this season that an SFA game has been televised.
SFA vs. THE LIONS: The all-time series between SFA and Southeastern Louisiana is all knotted up at 4-4-1 (.500). The series dates back to the 1950 season when the 'Jacks recorded a 21-0 victory. The Lumberjacks have won two of the last four meetings, which also includes a 21-21 tie in 1984. The Lumberjacks dropped a 45-23 decision to the Lions at Homer Bryce Stadium last season.
CLOSE, BUT NOT QUITE: Of the Lumberjacks six losses this season, four of them have been by single digits. Three of the 'Jacks' losses have been by a field goal or less.
LAST TIME vs. THE LIONS: The Southeastern Louisiana Lions spoiled the Lumberjacks' 2005 homecoming by outscoring SFA, 45-23. The Lions compiled more than 520 yards of total offense led by quarterback Trey Willie who completed 17-of-25 passes for 308 yards and two touchdowns. SFA quarterback Danny Southall was solid in his first career start completing 19-of-33 passes for 265 yards and a TD. He also carried the ball 13 times for 38 yards and a touchdown. Louie Runnels led the 'Jacks' ground game with 15 carries for 64 yards and one score.
UP NEXT ... The Lumberjacks return to action Saturday, Nov. 4, when they host conference rival Sam Houston State. The game against the Bearkats is slated to begin at 6 p.m. from Homer Bryce Stadium.
