FRISCO, Texas - Sophomore Lauren Railey was honored by the Southland Conference for her efforts in Stephen F. Austin's victories over Texas-Arlington and Texas State by being named offensive player of the week, league officials announced Monday afternoon.
Railey, a native of McKinney, Texas, tied her career high 23 kills Saturday evening against the Bobcats. She hit .283 in the match and collected 17 digs for her sixth double-double of the season. It was the third time in her short career that Railey has posted 23 kills. All have been against Texas State.
Friday night, the 5-10 outside hitter knocked down 11 kills and 24 digs against the Mavs.
It is the first time Railey garners the award this season, but the third time a Ladyjack has been named an SLC Player of the Week.
Railey will lead SFA back to the court Tuesday night against SMU in Dallas before taking on North Texas Wednesday night in Denton. The matches will close out the Ladyjacks' 2006 non-conference slate.
