Mardi Gras Madness Scheduled for Friday

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin men and women's basketball team will officially begin the 2006-07 season Friday at 11:30 p.m. with the ninth annual Mardi Gras Madness. The event will take place in the William R. Johnson Coliseum and will coincide with Homecoming events on campus.
Students will have the opportunity to participate in contests where the winner could receive a $1,000 tuition for the spring semester. There will also be a free throw knock-out game where a student organization can win up to $600. T-Shirt, Mardi Gras beads and other assorted items will also be given away throughout the evening. There will also be performances by the SFA spirit squads.
The evening will be highlighted by the introduction of the 2006-07 Ladyjack and Lumberjack basketball teams. Admission is free to the community.
Mardi Gras Madness is sponsored by the SFA Alumni Association, Clear Channel Communications, Joe Max Green Insurance Concepts, Chase Bank, Varsity Bookstore, R&K Distributors Inc., Nacogdoches Eye Associates, Tipton Ford, Elliott Electric Supply Co., Creative Photography and Bancorp South.
The Ladyjacks will open the regular season Friday, Nov. 10 at Tulane. The Lumberjacks get the 2006-07 season under way Saturday Nov. 11 against San Diego.
