NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack basketball team will meet the University of Louisiana-Lafayette in a road game on Feb. 18, officials from both schools announced Tuesday. At press time Tuesday, the schools had not agreed on a start time for the game. The contest is the end result of a process that began early last year when both programs were chosen to join a pool of 100 teams from across the nation for the ESPN BracketBusters presented by eBay.
The Lumberjacks and Ragin' Cajuns were not among the 26 teams chosen for one of the televised BracketBusters presented by eBay games. However, as part of the original agreement, Louisiana-Lafayette is required to schedule a game against SFA in Nacogdoches next season during November or December.
"We were hoping for a TV appearance, but it didn't work out," SFA head coach Danny Kaspar said. "Based on the teams available to us, I think Louisiana-Lafayette was a good opponent for us."
The BracketBusters presented by eBay series is designed to create intriguing match-ups between potential NCAA Championship "bracket busters" based on the teams' season performances. The pairings are not announced until three weeks prior to the scheduled dates for games.
The Lumberjacks are currently 10-8 on the season and 3-5 in Southland Conference play. They'll host league-leading Northwestern State Saturday in a 4 p.m. game at the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
The Ragin' Cajuns are 5-14 overall and 1-7 in the Sun Belt Conference. Louisiana-Lafayette has five scheduled games remaining before its meeting with SFA.
