PLANO, Texas - Stephen F. Austin senior point guard Marcus Clark has been named the Aeropostale Southland Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, conference officials announced Tuesday. This marks the first time this season for a Lumberjack to earn the award.
Clark, a Marshall, Texas native, averaged 22 points in SFA's two games over the holidays. He scored 21 points in the Lumberjacks' 71-52 win over Texas-Pan American and went for 23 in a losing effort at North Texas. During the North Texas game, Clark scored the 1,000th point of his career.
For the season, Clark is averaging 13.5 points per game, tied for second on the team and ninth in the Southland. His 2.80 steals per game rank first in the league and his 5.70 assists average is second among conference players. Clark is on pace to easily break the school's record for career assists.
The Lumberjacks (7-3) return to action Thursday, when they open SLC play with a road game against Nicholls State. The contest is set to tip off at 6:30 p.m. in Thibodaux, La.
