Total Team Effort Pushes SFA Past Lamar

BEAUMONT, Texas - There was no second-half let down Saturday night, as the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack basketball team hammered Lamar, 72-54, Saturday night at the Montagne Center. The `Jacks improved to 10-8 (.556) overall, and 3-5 (.375) in Southland Conference play.
After getting out to a quick start, Lamar was eventually slowed by an intense Lumberjack defense that allowed the Cardinals a 21-of-66 (.318) effort from the floor. Lamar was even less impressive from beyond the three-point arc connecting on only 4-of-23 (.174) attempts. SFA also got the job done on the glass out rebounding the Cardinals, 51-44.
The Lumberjacks were just as impressive on the offensive end as four players finished the game in double figures, led by freshman Josh Alexander's game-high 19 points. Alexander also pulled down 10 rebounds to mark his second career double-double. Junior Antuane Miller added 17 points and pulled down eight rebounds as SFA built a 22-point second-half advantage.
The `Jacks finished the game 30-of-67 (.448) from the floor, including a 6-of-14 (.429) effort from beyond the arc. SFA dominated the low post outscoring the home team, 42-26, in the paint including 20 second-chance points.
Senior Anthony Paez also recorded a double-double scoring 15 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Classmate Marcus Clark added 11 points and dished out a game-high six assists. Redshirt freshman Matt Kingsley scored six points and pulled down three rebounds in the victorious effort.
SFA returns to action Saturday when it host league-leading Northwestern State. The game against the Demons is set to begin at 4 p.m.
