Mills' 24 Rebounds Receives National Attention

NACOGDOCHES - Senior LaToya Mills jumped to the top of the NCAA rebounding charts with her career-high 24 rebounds Thursday night against Texas-Arlington. Mills helped lead SFA to a 39-35 victory over previously undefeated UTA, and put the Ladyjacks back in a first-place tie in the Southland Conference standings.
Mills' 24 rebounds is a new NCAA season-high, previously held by Shameka Smith of Gardner-Webb. Entering the week Smith had the season-high mark with 23, which she set in November.
Mills' 24 rebounds mark the first time a Ladyjack has grabbed at least 20 rebounds in a game since Christie Smith recorded 20 rebounds against then Northeast Louisiana in the 1994-95 season. It is also the most rebounds by a Ladyjack since Doris Felderhoff posted 25 in the 1976-77 season.
Mills also placed her name in yet another school top-10 list with her effort Thursday night. The 24 rebounds place Mills tied for fourth on the school's all-time single-game records list (Vanessa Anderson - 1979).
Mills finished the game 14 points to go along with her 24 rebounds, marking the fifth time this season that she has recorded a double-double. It was also the 25th time in her career that she has scored double-figure points and grabbed double-figure rebounds in a game.
The Ladyjacks return to action Saturday when they host Lamar. The game against the Lady Cardinals is slated to begin at 4 p.m., from the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
