FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The Stephen F. Austin track and field teams only sent seven athletes to the University of Arkansas Razorback Invitational over the weekend. But those seven packed a big punch, posting scoring performances in six events, including three first-place finishes and two second-place showings.
Seniors Marc Farris and Crystal Chang, along with junior Darwin Johnson led the charge. All three posted gold-medal performances. Chang captured the women's pentathlon title when she broke her own school record with a score of 3,755 points. Chang finished more than 700 points ahead of the nearest competitor. Farris won the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:49.51 that was two seconds off the school record pace. And Johnson's championship distance of 59-05.50 in the weight throw shattered his previous school record mark by nearly four inches.
Junior Ashley Monteau and senior Kenneth McKinley turned in second-place finishes in the 5,000 meters and the shot put, respectively. Monteau recorded a school record time of 17:06.87. McKinley posted a throw of 56-01.25.
Junior Reggie Lazenby posted a scoring performance for the Lumberjacks in the long jump. He finished sixth with a jump of 23-04.50.
The Lumberjacks and Ladyjacks will be back in action on Jan. 27, when they travel to Baton Rouge, La. for the LSU Bayou Bengal Invitational.
