NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack basketball team will try to win its third straight Southland Conference game Saturday when it hosts Texas-San Antonio. The game is scheduled to tip off at 4 p.m. in the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The Lumberjacks (9-6, 2-3) are coming off back-to-back wins over league foes McNeese State and Texas State.
LAST GAME: SFA overcame its worst shooting performance of the year to defeat Texas State on the road. The Lumberjacks shot just 32.8 percent for the game, but hit shots when they had to. Leading scorers Josh Alexander (14 points) and Anthony Paez (11 points) did all their scoring in the second half. Senior Marcus Clark finished with four assists, eclipsing the school's career assists record.
VS. TEXAS-SAN ANTONIO: The Lumberjacks trail the all-time series against Texas-San Antonio with a 9-18 record. SFA is 4-5 against the Roadrunners under head coach Danny Kaspar. UTSA won the only meeting between the two schools last year, 69-65.
THE ROADRUNNERS: Texas-San Antonio brings a 6-9 overall record and a 1-3 Southland Conference mark into Saturday's match-up. The Roadrunners are 0-5 on the road. UTSA is coming off a 71-63 home loss to Sam Houston State. The Roadrunners took a nine-point lead to halftime of that game before a cold-shooting second half helped Sam Houston to the victory.
THE COACHES: Danny Kaspar is in his sixth season as head coach of the Lumberjacks. Including a nine-year stint as head coach at Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Kaspar is 304-121 (.715) over his 14-year coaching career. Kaspar has guided the Lumberjacks to an 85-69 (.552) mark during his tenure. Tim Carter is in his 11th season as the Roadrunners' head coach. His career mark stands at 166-160 (.509), and he has posted a record of 155-144 (.518) at UTSA.
UP NEXT: The Lumberjacks will be back in the William R. Johnson Coliseum to meet Texas-Arlington on Jan. 26. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
