PLANO, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team swept a pair of matches to win the championship at last weekend's Lady Indian Invitational. SFA had the broom in hand again Tuesday when it came time to name the Southland Conference Aeropostale Soccer Student Athletes of the Week. Shahin Pabani earned her first player of the week award of the season, and Kim Gray and Natascia Michalezki received the honor for the second week in a row.
Pabani, a junior forward, scored three goals in two matches, including both goals in the Ladyjacks' 2-1 championship win over host team Arkansas State, to earn offensive player of the week accolades. Pabani's three goals lead the team.
Gray, a senior defender, helped turn back nine shots in SFA's 5-0 win over Arkansas-Little Rock and was part of a defensive effort that held Arkansas State to just six shots the entire match. Gray shared Week 1 defensive honors with Louisiana-Monroe's Nicole Nichols.
Michalezki played all but 15 minutes of the weekend set and recorded five saves with one goal against to earn the title of goalkeeper of the week. The senior improved her record to 3-1-0 and has now amassed 20 saves and two shutouts for the season.
The Ladyjacks (3-1-0) return to action Friday when they head to Houston for a match against Rice. That contest is set to begin at 7 p.m.
