
Lumberjacks Have Week Off

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team enters its bye week with a 3-1 (.750) overall mark. The `Jacks are coming off a 40-17 victory at Southern Utah that saw SFA rack up 449 yards of total offense and force the Thunderbirds into five turnovers. Sophomore wideout Tyrell Williams had a career-night for the `Jacks recording four catches for 107 yards and two touchdowns, including a 64-yard strike to quarterback Zeke Dixon in the first quarter to give SFA its first lead of the game.
Nicholls State enters the week with a 1-1 overall record and heads to North Dakota State to take on the Fighting Sioux. NSU has had two games cancelled this season due to the effects of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The Colonels were picked to finish sixth in the Southland Conference according to preseason polls of the league head coaches and sports information directors.
The `Jacks are averaging almost 40 points a game and 453 yards of total offense on the season. Senior quarterback Zeke Dixon has completed 50 percent of his passes for 1,064 yards and 10 touchdowns. Hallsville freshman Damian Perkins is leading the `Jacks ground attack. Perkins is averaging over 70 yards per game and has scored three touchdowns this season.
The Lumberjacks' defense has shown a knack for forcing turnovers. SFA has forced its opponents into 18 miscues this season (nine interceptions and nine fumbles). SFA is led by Stephon Rhea who has recorded three interceptions in 2005. Senior Ryan Luedecke has recorded a team-high 30 tackles (11 solo stops) this season.
