NACOGDOCHES - Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston State are the only two teams left in the Southland Conference with perfect 4-0 marks in conference play. However, after Friday night, only one will be left with the mark of perfection as the Ladyjacks and the Bearkats face off in a battle for the top spot in the SLC.
On Friday, SFA and SHSU will be taking the court at 7 p.m. at Shelton Gymnasium.
"This is a big match for us, as is every conference match," said Ladyjack head coach Debbie Humphreys, "We just hope to take care of things on our home court."
The home court is where the Ladyjacks want to be considering all four conference wins have come in Nacogdoches. The Bearkats, on the other hand, have lost five of seven when on the road.
On the opening weekend of SLC action, SFA and SHSU each took wins from Nicholls State and Southeastern Louisiana. The Ladyjacks then continued their win streak defeating Texas-San Antonio before sweeping Northwestern State on Tuesday evening. The Bearkats swept Texas State then beat Louisiana-Monroe on Wednesday.
The Ladyjacks are coming into the match with an 11-2 record, the top overall record in the SLC. The Bearkats are sitting with an even 6-6 overall record.
"We both played a tough non-conference schedule," said Humphreys, "which I think made both teams aggressive and confident. We expect it to be a very good match."
