NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks' season opener against Henderson State Thursday night was a great success in more ways than one. The `Jacks kicked off the season with a 49-38 victory over the Reddies, while SFA fans donated approximately 1,000 cases of bottled water for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
"We are grateful to Animal Science Products of Nacogdoches for their generous contribution of the truck to transport the water," said SFA Athletics Director Robert Hill. "We are also grateful to those who support Lumberjack football and for their generosity which enabled this event to be a great success."
The donated cases of water filled the trailer of an Animal Science Products 18-wheeler. SFA and Animal Science Products are currently working with officials to determine the most optimal place to transport the water.
