NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team defeated Louisiana Tech, 2-0, Friday night in the second match of the Ladyjack Soccer Classic. It was the Ladyjacks' first home contest of the season and ended a run of two consecutive losses.
Second-half goals by freshman Amanda Alders and sophomore Kristel Lindsey, along with a seven-save performance by senior goalkeeper Natascia Michalezki, propelled SFA (4-3) to the victory.
Neither team scored in the first half, but SFA managed to keep pressure on the Lady Techster defense. The Ladyjacks pinned the ball inside the Louisiana Tech half of the field for most of the period and fired nine shots at the Lady Techster goal. Louisiana Tech managed three shots in the half.
The Ladyjacks got on the board in the 60th minute, barely two minutes after Louisiana Tech's Leslie Buck was issued a red card and ejected from the contest. The Lady Techsters were forced the play a man down for the remainder of the match, and SFA took advantage.
Alders tracked down a loose ball in the goal box and fired a shot from point-blank range at Louisiana Tech goalkeeper Chrissy Haisler. Haisler deflected the shot, but was unable to keep it from rolling into the net for a 1-0 SFA lead. The goal was Alders' first of the season.
Twelve minutes later, Lindsey got in on the action when she gathered a deflected shot and flicked it past a sprawling Haisler to set the final score. The goal was Lindsey's third of the year, tying her for the team lead.
Michalezki recorded two saves in the first half and five in the second frame. She now has 39 saves and three shutouts for the season.
The Ladyjacks will resume action in the Ladyjack Soccer Classic on Sunday. They are set to take on The Citadel in an 11 a.m. match at the SFA Intramural Complex. The Citadel was defeated by Texas State, 9-1, in Friday's afternoon match. Texas State and Louisiana Tech will play each other Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in the final match of the Ladyjack Soccer Classic.
