
Split Decision in Soccer

PLANO, Texas - The defending Southland Conference regular-season champion Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team was picked to finish tied for first in a preseason poll of both conference head coaches and sports information directors announced league officials Thursday afternoon.
The Ladyjacks received two first-place votes and 42 points in the coaches poll to finish in a two-way tie for first with Northwestern State. The Lady Demons also received two first-place votes. SFA finished two points ahead of 2004 conference tournament champion Texas State.
It was a similar result, just different company for SFA, in a poll of the sports information directors. SFA received two first-place votes and 55 points to be picked first, along with Texas State. The Bobcats received three first-place votes in the SID's poll.
The Ladyjacks kick-off the 2004 season Saturday Aug. 20, in an exhibition game against SMU. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m., from the SFA Intramural Complex.
