
SFA Track and Field Names Team MVPs

NACOGDOCHES - Senior Ana Rodriguez and junior Julian Acuña were named SFA Track and Field Female and Male MVPs announced head coach Phil Olson Saturday afternoon. Both athletes are distance runners for SFA.
Rodriguez won four Southland Conference individual titles and helped guide the Ladyjacks to the 2005 SLC Indoor title. It marked the second track and field team title and the fourth (two cross country team titles) during her career in Nacogdoches. She qualified for the 2005 NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 5,000 meters where she finished 22nd overall with her time of 16:46.77. Rodriguez graduates from SFA as an 11-time SLC individual champion and a 16-time All-SLC athlete.
After guiding the Lumberjack cross country team to its fourth consecutive league crown with his runner-up finish, Acuña continued his strong season on the track. He guided the 'Jacks to their first SLC Indoor Track and Field title this season by winning the indivdual title in both the 3,000 and 5,000-meter runs. He returned to the track to earn all-conference in the 10,000 meters at the outdoor conference championships. Acuña also was an NCAA qualifer during the cross country season. He enters his senior campaign as a seven-time All-SLC honoree, a three-time SLC individual champion and a two-time NCAA qualifier.
