NACOGDOCHES - Southwood High School standout point guard Anitria Mosley has announced her intentions to play for the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team announced head coach Lee Ann Riley Wednesday afternoon. Mosley is a former high school teammate of current Ladyjack Kendria Smith.
"We are fortunate to add a player of her caliber this late," said Riley. "Anitria is just a winner and she has proven that by leading her team to a Louisiana State Championship. That's the kind of players we want in our program."
Mosley comes from a dominant Southwood High program that has had its way at the class 5A level winning eight state titles since 1995. Mosley started on the 2003 and 2005 Southwood High teams that won the state championship. She is a two-time all-area and all-district player who was named Sweet 16 MVP this past season.
"Anitria is one of the best guards to ever come out of Southwood," said Southwood High School head coach Steve McDowell. "She is a great competitor and a young lady who loves to win. Anitria makes things happen offensively and defensively and is an explosive and exciting player. Anitria was a joy to coach at Southwood and I'm looking forward to seeing her play at Stephen F. Austin."
Mosley averaged almost 12 points per game during the regular season, but increased her production during key games. Mosley scored 17.9 points, grabbed 5.0 rebounds and dished out 4.0 assists per game during the playoffs.
"One of the reasons I chose to go to Stephen F. Austin was because it isn't to far away from my home and Kendria Smith is a former teammate at Southwood," said Mosley. "The other reason is because I think all of the coaches are great and they seem to be easy to talk to."
Mosley decision brings the Ladyjacks' 2005 signing class to five. She joins Jamie Ansley, Malorie Fowler, Jessica Gaines and Natashia Green who signed with SFA earlier this season.
