
SFA Track & Field Heads to NCAA Regionals

The Stephen F. Austin men and women's track and field team will be in Norman, Okla., Friday and Saturday competing at the NCAA Regional Championships. The meet will be hosted by the University of Oklahoma and will take place at John Jacobs Stadium. Friday's events will begin at noon with the men's discus. The running events will get started at 4 p.m., with the women's 4X100-meter relay. Saturday's events will get under way at noon with the women's discus. The top-four finishers in each event will automatically advance to the NCAA Championships in Sacramento, Calif.
Lumberjacks Headed to the NCAA Regionals The SFA men are sending seven athletes who will be competing in eight events. Freshman Johnny Thacker has qualified for the regional championships in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash and the 4X100-meter relay, while junior Chance Edwards qualified in the 1,500-meter run. Sophomore Reggie Lazenby advanced in the long jump and as a member of the 4X100-meter relay team. Alex Harris and Erik Powell will also run a leg of the 4X100-meter relay at the regional championships. Junior Kenneth McKinley qualified for the meet in the shot put and discus, while sophomore Wade Whittington qualified for the meet in the javelin.
Ladyjacks Headed to the NCAA Regionals The SFA women are sending six athletes competing in five different events. Senior Jocelyn Stevens will be competing in the 400-meter hurdles, along with junior Stevina Wyatt. Stevens has also qualified for the meet in the high jump, along with classmate Teresa Murray. Senior Ana Rodriguez has qualified for the NCAA Regionals in the 5,000-meter run. Sophomore Sarah Emerson will be making her second appearance at the meet in the javelin, while classmate Markeisha Edwards has advanced in the shot put.
Up Next ... If SFA has any athletes that finish in the top four of their respective events, they will qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which will be held Wednesday June 8 through Saturday June 11 in Sacramento, Calif.
