NACOGDOCHES - Although the season-opener is still three months away, the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team released its 2005 schedule announced head coach Jaime Frias Wednesday afternoon. The 2005 schedule is highlighted by games against two Big 12 schools and three Conference USA teams. The Ladyjacks will also face three teams that advanced to the 2004 NCAA Championships.
The Ladyjacks will host 2004 NCAA Championship participant SMU in an exhibition on Saturday Aug. 20, before traveling to College Station, Texas, to open the regular season against Texas A&M. The other NCAA tournament participant on the Ladyjacks 2005 slate is Rice (Sept. 9). The Ladyjacks will stay in Houston to face the Cougars two days later. The Ladyjacks will be in Waco, Texas on Sunday Aug. 28, to face their second Big 12 opponent of the year in the Baylor Lady Bears.
The Ladyjacks will also play away non-conference games against Arkansas-Little Rock (Sept. 2) and at Arkansas State (Sept. 4) before returning to Nacogdoches to open the home portion of their schedule against Louisiana Tech on Sept.16. SFA will follow that up with a game against the Citadel (Sept. 18) and Grambling (Sept. 21) before it opens Southland Conference play on Sunday Sept. 25, against Northwestern State. SFA will have one final non-conference game on Oct. 16, when the Ladyjacks travel to Shreveport, La., to face Centenary.
"This is arguably the most competitive schedule we've had at our program," said Frias. "We wanted to expose our players early to top 25 programs to set a certain level of excellence within their game and their training. These games should help us be successful within our conference and post season play."
