NACOGDOCHES - Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team named senior defender Kim Gray and senior goalkeeper Natascia Michalezki as the 2005 team captains announced head coach Jaime Frias Tuesday morning.
Gray is a three-time All-Southland Conference selection that has earned first-team honors each of the past two seasons. She is also a four-time SLC Defensive Player of the Week honoree. Gray has been a cornerstone of some of the best defensive units in school history. During her time in Nacogdoches, the Ladyjacks have recorded 19 shutouts, including a school-record nine in 2003. Gray is also a success story in the classroom as well earning first-team Academic All-Southland Conference honors this past season.
"Kim is a natural leader," said Frias. "She has guided our backline since her very first game. She's a student of the game and a coach on the field. We expect her to carry those leadership qualities to the entire team this year."
Michalezki has been an absolute brick wall rewriting the SFA record books in her first three seasons on campus. She is a two-time All-SLC selection who received first-team honors this past year. She heads into her final season as the Ladyjacks career (418), single-season (154) and single-game (24) leader in saves. In 2003, Michalezki was named the SLC Tournament MVP after recording two shutout victories to help the Ladyjacks advance to their first-ever berth in the NCAA Championships.
"Natascia is a player that has earned the respect of her peers through her competitive nature," said Frias. "She's a person that hates to lose and demands the very best out of herself. She will be looked upon to serve as a leader and a motivator for the upcoming season."
