The Lumberjack football team will go through a two-hour scrimmage Friday night in conjunction with an East Texas Football Officials' Clinic held annually on the SFA campus. The scrimmage is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. in Homer Bryce Stadium and should last about two hours.
Coach Robert McFarland and his staff will have the opportunity to further evaluate players at various positions with about 100-plays on tap for Friday's workout.
SFA held its first scrimmage of the spring a week ago with the offensive unit scoring on seven possessions. QB Zeke Dixon was 17-21-0 for 180 yards and three touchdowns in the first scrimmage and looks to continue this strong play this spring. The return of WR Chance Dennis has added explosiveness to the Lumberjack receiving corps and given SFA quarterbacks another big play threat at receiver.
The defensive unit gave up early scores last week, but rebounded with a number of three and out series later on in the scrimmage. SFA defensive coordinator J.C. Harper will use the remainder of spring workouts to find replacements at linebacker for Eric Robinson and Jeremy Davis, as well as filling the safety spot vacated by Braylon Lester.
SFA wraps up spring practice next week with the annual Purple-White game.
