SFA Distance Squad Competes at North Texas

DENTON, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men and women's distance squads traveled to Denton, Texas Thursday afternoon to compete in the North Texas Invitational and came away with four individual championships.
Sophomore Ashley Monteau recorded a school-record time of 9:58.53 to win the women's 3,000 meters. Senior Ana Rodriguez brought home and individual title in the 1,500 meters with her time of 4:36.37. Sophomore LaKoa McKeever finished second in the 800 meters when she crossed the finish line with time of 2:17.88.
The SFA men dominated the 3,000 meters as junior Julian Acuna outpaced teammate Eric Brill for the title. Acuna crossed the finish line with a time of 8:47.04 to defeat Brill by only 86-hundredths of a second. Junior Cody Clark finished fourth in the event with a time of 8:56.83. Classmate Marc Farris won the individual title in the 1,500 meters with his time of 3:59.09. Junior Chance Edwards finished fourth in the 800-meter run with his time of 1:53.61.
The SFA track and field team returns to action on Saturday May 7, when it travels to Houston, Texas to compete in the Houston Invitational. The meet will be the team's last warm-up before heading to Huntsville, Texas to compete in the Southland Conference Championships.
