
Softball Splits With UTA

ARLINGTON -- The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack softball team moved to 8-15 in SLC play with a doubleheader split the Lady Mavericks of the University of Texas-Arlington Saturday afternoon in the metroplex.
UT-Arlington jumped out to a 4-1 lead after a two run inning in the bottom of the fourth inning before the Ladyjacks pushed across a pair of runs in the top of the sixth to cut the UTA lead to one. SFA fell just short of the comeback as Jill Garro tossed a complete game at SFA in game one. Garro (10-11) allowed three runs on nine nits and struck out three for UTA. Traci Moore (5-9) took the loss as she went an inning and a third allowing two runs on three hits.
Carrie Woydziak was 34-4 and Tara Hersey and Lee Lara added two hits apiece for the Ladyjacks. Lara also picked up two RBI on the night while Hersey had the only extra base hit, a double, for SFA in game one.
Julie Morse started and picked up the win in the nightcap for the Ladyjacks as she worked three inning sand allowed one run on five hits. Nicole Carter and Traci Moore worked two scoreless innings each in relief to help SFA to the win.
Hersey drove in a pair of runs with two hits in the nightcap, while Kristina Swart also went 2-2 with two runs scored and a pair of stolen bases. Jessica Tullos and Crystal Dahlquist also went 2-3 in the second game as the Ladyjacks pounded out 11 hits in the win. Ragen Rutherford and Tullos each had a double and Hersey had a triple in game two.
The teams wrap up the three game series tomorrow afternoon in Arlington.
